DCTRA Videos from the past

If someone wants a copy of the following DVD’s let me know. Cost will be just to cover DVD media. Note that Tom Pennell just delivered some additional tapes so we’ll look through those and see about converting them to DVD too.
For now…
1. Triumphest 1991
2. Triumphest 1992 and 1997 DCTRA Election Brunch
3. 1990 DCTRA New Years Eve Party, 1992 DCTRA Campout at Tom’s Cabin & 1994 DCTRA Halloween, 1994 VTR Advertisment
4. DCTRA Christmas Party 1992
5. DCTRA Camping at Tom’s Cabin 1994 (about first 4 minutes), DCTRA Christmas Party 1994
6. 1981 San Diego British Car Day, 1984 (??) TRA West – Lake Havasu*
On the DVD’s with multiple segments I placed simple titles at the beginning of each section and made each section a separate chapter accessible from a menu.
——————-
Some highlights:
- Bev and Pete Peterson dressed as a shark and scuba driver singing “Tom Dooley” in the dark next to a tree with old Tom hanging by his neck. Plus lots of other DCTRA “characters” trying their hand at butchering the song too!
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.
- Jim Hughes burning his mouth on some hot salsa.
- Jim Hughes, John Horton and Bob Schaller sitting around in the woods talking about TR’s.
- Lots and lots of video of TR’s rolling through winding roads.
- Virgil Cole singing the DCTRA Club song while playing the Guitar.
Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.
- John Horton flipping burgers with a fork in the rain.
- Digger Davitt packing up his car in a Motel 6 parking lot on the way to Triumphest.
- Tom Pennell announcing at the final TRA-West (??*) what what will become our beloved Triumpest.
- Of course seeing all the much younger looking (and still current) DCTRA members at the Christmas and New Years, Elections and Triumphest from years past is a bit of a hoot too.

British Car Week

May 17, 2008
9:00 amto3:00 pm
May 17th will be the annual picnic run to Prescott to celebrate British Car Week. We are a little ahead of the national event that you can check out at www.britishcarweek.org. but we want to avoid Memorial Day traffic and the heat !  As Chris Nuss said one time ‘every week is British Car Week’ . To avoid the confusion we suffered last year with finding a spot to have our picnic Sharon & Franco have arranged with the PAAC in Prescott that we can use their facility instead of a city park. We will meet at Carefree Hiway and I 17 at the Albertson’s on the north east corner and hope to leave there by 9:30 am. Directions will be provided and we will regroup on Union Street, near the Courthouse, in Prescott and convoy together from there. Hopefully some the Prescott folks will join us there as this event is open to all. As we have done in the past, Sharon will arrange for submarine sandwiches from Blimpies and have chips and cookies too. So that you can have your favorite beverage bring it with you!
Either email me or call (480-985-2531) or call Sharon (928-776-4482) whichever is easiest, to let us know you are coming as Blimpies will need numbers no later than May 14th.

Spring into Summer Rally

Come early if you want some tutoring on “Tulip Rallye” instructions. We will end up at the Power & Hampton Cruise in East Mesa for the first Saturday-in-the-month British car night. Please let Philip know (480-985-2531) you plan to attend by Thursday, May 1st so he can have enough route sheets available. This event most definitely needs you to have a navigator.

Drive to Arcosanti

November 22, 2008

This is the information I have for our trip on November 22nd.  We will meet at the McDonalds parking lot in the strip mall on the north side of Carefree Highway just off I-17 at 8:00 AM for an 8:30 departure.  We will drive up I-17 to Arcosanti which should take approximately an hour.  The only non-freeway route would be to take Route 69 SE out of Prescott, which would add lots of miles and time.  We are scheduled for a tour at 10:00 AM for a cost of $8.00 per person.

After Arcosanti, we will travel up I-17 for about 15 miles to San Dominique Winery.  The winery has a 1/4 mile gravel road.  If we drive with care and don’t tailgate, this should not cause a problem.  It is a well maintained road.  If you want to do a wine-tasting, the cost is $4.00.  You will receive 1 ounce of four different wines, ranging from red to white and dry to sweet.  They have other wines that will not be included in the tasting.

We will have lunch at the winery which will cost $6.50 plus tax.  Menu choices will be included in the next e-mail.  After lunch, you are on your own to either go shopping at the outlet mall, go to “Out of Africa” or whatever strikes your fancy.  San Dominique is near Camp Verde, so some of the east valley people may want to return by way of Payson.

May 2008 AAHC Annual Meeting

May 5, 2008
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

At the AAHC meeting on Monday last, The next meeting was announced. This is the yearly meeting to be held at Mel Martins shop.

Mel is a car collector and has a LARGE shop at 2140 W. Greenway Ave. This is about 60′ by 100′ and FULL of jaw dropping cars including an original 1965 Cobra he is restoring. He is also serving a picnic dinner to be admired.

This event starts May 4th at 6:00PM. As we are members, we are invited to attend en mass. I urge all DCTRA members to drive a Triumph there. This does not replace the normal meeting. We need to demonstrate our cars to the fat fender people.

So make plans to attend, and enjoy this unique showing. A lot of the other member clubs will also drive their show cars there.
